They tend to be low quality and lathered in phthalates. If you've ever bought a sex toy with that "new toy" smell, you know what we're talking about. If you're not sure, think about that new car smell, or the smell of a new shower curtain. Yes, something in that car and/or that shower curtain may have phthalates in them. So what are phthalates? In simple terms, phthalates are chemicals that soften hard plastics. Once they break down they are air borne and if they are in your sex toys, you are subjecting some of your most sensitive and absorbent skin tissues to this chemical.
Its always best to invest a little bit more money on a quality non toxic sex toy. Not only will it be safe for you, but it will last you a heck of a lot longer than a more generic toy.

Hard tempered borosilicate glass is one of our favorites! It is as strong and virtually unbreakable. Glass toys add a touch of class to your bedroom play because of their beauty. Due to its smoothness, they are very firm & your favorite lube will last longer when using it on the toy.
* non porous, so they can be sanitized. when you are finished playing, place your toy in boiling water for 3 minutes. wipe it down with a clean lint free cloth, and store it in a safe place.

Silicone
Silicone is our second favorite sex toy material. Like glass, it is also non porous, but has a more realistic texture than glass. Silicone toys are very versatile and come in a variety of styles and colors.
* can be boiled for 3 minutes to be sanitized (just do not expose any electronic pieces to the water)
* can be clean with soap and water (if you choose not to boil it)
* retains temperature
* DO NOT use with SILICONE LUBRICANT (this can have negative reaction to your toy and may deteriorate your toy) Stick to water based lubes when using a silicone toy.
Shopping Tip: Make sure the packing of the toy clearly states "100% medical grade". If a toy claims to be silicone, it is possible it is a lower grade silicone, mixed with other materials. Its always best to stick to "100% medical grade".
Hard Plastic
Hard plastic sex toys have not been treated with phthalates. They are non porous, but can not be boiled.
TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) Elastomer
TPE is a great alternative for people avoiding the use of rubber softeners. They are phthalate free, but are slightly porous, so toy care is essential and should definitely not be shared. Clean with soap and water. And if sharing, please use a condom.
