"The Hooping Life" Chicago Premier
Looky what we found on Facebook!
The
Chicago Hooping Network is bringing "The Hooping Life" documentary to
Chicago in a big way! This is a movie about hoopers being brought to our
city by its hoopers for our hooping community and its future members,
as well as for our city. We are using the film screening as a
springboard for a full-day event to bring together our Midwest hooping
community, get to know one another, and learn from and share with one
and all. This is also a fantastic opportunity to spread our love of
hooping with all of Chicago, not only
through the event itself but also through the charitable donation of
proceeds to a local organization! This will be a multifaceted event for
learning and sharing, for hooping and for other arts, for people of all
ages!
It's a movie, it's a movement.
Through interconnected stories, The Hooping Life takes the hula hoop from its origins as a child’s toy to its current status as club art form, teacher’s aid, and instrument of redemption. Filmed partly by the subjects themselves, and traveling from Burning Man to Time Square, from South Central to South Africa, the seven intimate portraits capture the birth and addictive growth of a new subculture.
"The Hooping Life interweaves the stories of eight men and women who risk it all to found a movement (Anah), work for themselves (Christabel), heal themselves spiritually (Baxter) and physically (Sass), save and educate their communities (Tisha and Jeffrey), and radically challenge the status quo (Karis). The film travels from South Africa to South Central, from the Deep South to the Big Apple, and places in-between.
